The Way Forward in a Rudderless Culture

Trinity Academy – Ernest Shackleton Adventure Camp 2023

“It is hard to state how radical a traditional education has become.  It really cannot be found anymore in the culture.  It must be valued, encouraged, and given everything it needs to flourish.  … Our children’s souls depend upon it.” – Dr. Elizabeth A. Mitchell, S.C.D., Director of Development

It is important to remember why we are here and why Trinity Academy exists.  Our school achieves the impossible every day.  We outpace state and national averages in literacy, scoring in the top one percent in the nation in reading and mathematics.  We outpace the Wisconsin State ACT Average of 19.4 by eleven points, with a Trinity Academy ACT Average of 30.

But even more importantly, our school provides a foundation for your children, and grandchildren, in a rudderless culture.  A culture where men define themselves as women, and women define themselves as men.  A culture where speaking your beliefs can cost your job and livelihood.  A culture where an understanding of the United States Constitution, exposure to great works of authentic literature, including Shakespeare and the greats of Western Civilization, and an ability to tackle mathematics with a rational, systematic approach, with memorization of math facts and computation – is offered to your students all day, every day.

In a toxic media culture, our school is tech free, and all teaching is done with discussion, blackboards, and books.  Phones are powered down and left at the entrance to the building when a student arrives on our campus.  Classroom time is spent with books; recess time is spent in face-to-face interaction, laughing, playing, and chatting with peers and faculty.

It is hard to state how radical a traditional education has become.  It really cannot be found anymore in the culture.  It must be valued, encouraged, and given everything it needs to flourish.  The future of the Church and of the world depends upon it.  Our children’s souls depend upon it.

While we cannot stop a violent, deranged individual from existing, we can make every effort to thwart their access to our children.  Intruders avoid facilities with locked doors and secured entrances.  Our community requested funds this year for improved safety measures for our school, particularly the addition of key fob entry and video camera apparatus for our Lower School entrance.  Future improvements in Phase Two will include installation of the same apparatus for our High School entrance, and improved security with new manual locks at the secondary entrances of both buildings.  While we focus on safety, our children can focus on being children at school.

We cannot bemoan the crisis which we face as parents, educators, Americans, and believing Christians in a darkened world.  The solution is not beyond our reach.  The answer is an unapologetic celebration of the fundamentals, the Truth, and the Light.

“Then you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free.” – John 8:32

God bless you and thank you.
