Division Overview

The Lower School excels in the teaching of reading skills, and the mastery of fundamental arithmetic. Catechism, phonics, grammar, writing, and mathematical computation are emphasized in the earliest grades. Students are immersed daily in outstanding literature, beginning with Aesop’s Fables and Mother Goose, and moving to the wonderful stories of Winnie the Pooh, the Laura Ingalls Wilder series, and the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis.

Students in our Lower School, K5-5th grades, scored in the 95th percentile, as a school average, on the 2024 Iowa Basic Test of Skills. This test assesses student performance in reading, spelling, grammar, and mathematics.  Our results by Grade and Subject can be read here: 2024 Iowa Basics Overview.

The curriculum of Trinity Academy stresses the fundamentals of learning. We provide students with an excellent basis of knowledge and study skills on which to build a lifetime of learning. Our methods of education are traditional. Catechism, phonics, grammar, writing, and mathematics are emphasized in the earliest grades.

  • What Our Parents Are Saying

It feels like Trinity is a hidden gem. Grace loves attending 4K AT Trinity Academy! The small class sizes allow for individualized attention and kids to work at their own pace, and I love that she is learning how to pray and love Jesus in the classroom.

    -Michelle, K4 Parent

  • What Our Graduates Are Saying

Trinity Academy has greatly influenced my ability to achieve academic greatness and manage a busy school work load. This was important for me because, without the strong and steady academic life I had at Trinity, I would not be able to do the things I am doing now.

-LT. Brendan Lee, Class of 2016

  • What Our Graduates Are Saying

Thank you is not enough to express my deep gratitude for the beauty, the wonder, the awe and the love you have given me during my education at Trinity. You changed my life completely. Thank you. Prayers for you, especially now in these challenging days, and May God bless you always!

-Therese Moen O’Grady, Class of 2003

  • What Our Graduates Are Saying

Trinity Academy was a blessing in disguise when I transferred to my junior year. Over the next two years I learned numerous lessons about life and the Catholic faith that I continue to carry with me to this day. My time at Trinity will forever be a pivotal foundation of my teenage years.

    -Jourdan Reynolds, Class of 2010

  • What Parents Are Saying

Trinity Academy provides an exemplary Catholic education for our children, helping them to grow ever more in Christ’s life and thus to find their true happiness.

    - Cardinal Raymond Burke, Trinity Academy Board Chairman

  • What Students Are Saying

Dad, do I get to go to school forever?

    - Trinity Academy Grade K3 Student

  • I live in a suburb just north of NYC filled with million-dollar homes and successful people, and we pay stunningly-high school taxes. The elementary schools are good. But I can’t recall ever seeing test results that equal those in your Iowa Basics letter about the achievements of the kids at Trinity Academy. Congratulations for such a stunning, ongoing success.
